Select Works

Thank you for visiting my portfolio.
These are selected hand‑engraved works by Shinichi Tomita.

Dragon & Tiger
Background

The “Dragon & Tiger” motif has long been regarded as one of Japan’s most auspicious and iconic designs.
It is a theme that master craftsmen have challenged for generations.

Concept

This work inherits that timeless tradition.
In 2025, it was entrusted to SINICHI ART STUDIO and elevated into a new form of watch engraving.

Design

The dragon, tiger, maple leaves, and flowing waves were all created as an original composition.
Each element was designed entirely from scratch for this piece.
The base watch is the Grand Seiko “Aka‑Fuji,”
whose distinctive case shape, bracelet, and vivid red dial inspired the engraving.

Gold and copper were used for the maple leaves,
silver for the waves, and gold inlay for the seigaiha pattern.
Each metal contributes its own texture, forming a layered and dynamic landscape.

Notes

It was an honor to create a piece worthy of being called a representative work of SINICHI ART STUDIO.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the client and to everyone who supported the creation of this work.

EROTICANOID
Background

“Truth is stranger than fiction.”
This work was born from a moment that seemed to embody that very idea.
Through the generosity of architect Noritaka Tange,
I was given the rare opportunity to engrave a watch personally used by Franck Muller.
For SINICHI ART STUDIO, this was a deeply meaningful commission.

Concept

Traditional hand engraving is rooted in classical Western ornamentation.
However, this work quietly breaks away from that convention.
Inspired in part by H. R. Giger,
the design carries an avant‑garde expression that transcends established norms.

Design

It weaves together themes of machinery and flesh,
sensuality and cold precision, creating a unique universe engraved into the metal.

Notes

EROTICANOID stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation,
becoming a one‑of‑a‑kind engraving that opened a new realm of beauty.

PIETA
Background

PIETA is a full hand‑engraved work,
its entire surface covered with delicate and detailed scroll engraving.

Design

The design was conceived as a completely original pattern,
with a presence worthy of the large case size.

Details

Its captivating appearance—powerful yet refined—
is the result of both technical mastery and artistic sensitivity.
It is truly a one‑of‑a‑kind creation.

SINICHI
Background

SINICHI is a chronograph model that balances individuality,
functional beauty, and presence.

Design

The engraving design was created to harmonize perfectly with the watch,
making it one of the studio’s signature works.

Details

The scroll pattern, developed independently by SINICHI ART STUDIO,
has influenced engravers and artists both in Japan and abroad.
The fine scrollwork is constructed with a woven, intricate structure,
designed so that its beauty stands out from every angle.

Notes

The buckle features gold inlay,
and the caseback is engraved with Albrecht Dürer’s “Praying Hands.”

P.N.T
Background

P.N.T is a celebrated perpetual calendar model created within the iconic tonneau‑shaped case.

Design

Its defining feature is the continuous scroll engraving that wraps gently around the entire case.
The flowing curves showcase the full range of fine engraving techniques.

Details

The caseback includes a perspective‑based engraving effect,
enhanced with gold inlay for added richness.

Notes

During the creation of this piece,
the owner arranged for the original engraving design to be shown directly to Franck Muller.
After completion, the finished watch was also presented to him—an irreplaceable experience.
